lebanon

For the month of July, I will be staying at the Community of the Beatitudes' religious house in Byblos, Lebanon along with a few other young Americans. While we are there, we will be immersing ourselves in the simple community life of the house while supporting the spiritual and material work of the community in a broken country. Lebanon is currently undergoing one of the most severe economic collapses seen since the 19th century. Expenses for basic necessities like food and fuel climb every day as more and more of the population falls below the poverty line. Despite being faced with such conditions, the people of Lebanon keep alive a rich faith tradition and a sense of pride in their identity and history. While we are in Lebanon, we will spend time both serving in the house and community and going out on pilgrimage. Through going to Lebanon, we want to both call attention to the help that we can provide to the people of Lebanon, while growing in appreciation for the spiritual and historical richness this beautiful country has to offer.
